Who is an X-Conservative

The only way I can describe a ‘Generation X conservative’ is to describe myself. I was born in 1971 in VA. I grew up in a lower middle class household that was full of a lot of love of guns, God, and common sense. My political views were shaped by mainly common sense but also so by Ronald Reagan, Rush Limbaugh, and my faith in God.

Let’s take a closer look at each of the influences that help same my views and my life.

Ronald Reagan is a larger than life figure that helped bring pride back to America. No matter if you love or hate the Reagan presidency, it is intellectually dishonest not to recognize this fact. After the Vietnam War, the Nixon (non-conservative, more in a later posting) shame, and the complete disaster that was the Carter (the anti-Semite, more in a later posting) I will explain) presidency. These are my first memories of politics. The mood of the country was very defeatist. The 'we can’t generation' (the Baby-Boomers, more in a later posting) had started the climb to power. The power of Ronald Reagan and his belief that this country was created to be a beacon freedom and liberty to the world, to be a ‘Shining city on a hill’, began in 1980. He overcame the left leaning voice of the media. He spoke directly to me. He spoke of peace through strength and the power of the American spirit. He brought back our national pride.

I stated that Rush Limbaugh helped shape my conservatism. This doesn’t mean that I am a Limbaugh robot. This means that I listen to the media he created, a forum and a voice for the common sense conservatives. His success is the result of his talent of saying on a large scale the same things we say at the dinner table. He gave conservatives a voice and balanced the left leaning media. This voice is now the dominant force in conservative politics.

The most important factor in shaping my conservatism is my faith in God. My faith has taught me compassion, freedom of thought, and the love of innocent human life.

In conclusion ‘X-conservatism’ is based on the belief of freedom and prosperity. Conservative values are based in fact and reason, not emotion.
